You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart always will be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place. // Miriam Adeney
I’m currently on a train in Scotland, rolling through the lush green countryside. There are deep blue-grey lochs on my left and clean white light filtering through the many windows in my car.
This is my life, or at least it has been for the past 5 years. I somehow find myself in the most beautiful places, usually by myself, or all to myself, if you frame it that way.
It’s my 28th birthday this Saturday. The past years have been a whirlwind of travel memories, some of my strongest friendships, losses, and countless new beginnings.
SECURING A ONE YEAR WORK VISA DOWN UNDER CAN BE AS EASY AS FILLING OUT AN ONLINE FORM IN 15 MINUTES.
My second installment on how to secure a work visa down under for Americans, this is my New Zealand edition!
Last time, I talked about how easy it can be to get a work visa for Australia, but if you also want to work & travel to that place from The Lord of the Rings, keep reading to see how it’s even easier (and much cheaper!) for New Zealand.

It always surprises me how many Americans don’t know about the working holiday visa in Australia.
To be fair, I was one of those Americans too, until I took my first solo venture to Europe and made friends from a variety of different countries. One of those friends happened to be British, and she told me about the working holiday visa she was planning on doing in Australia, and how she thought it applied to Americans too.
In an instant, the course of my life changed drastically.
One of my goals on The Atlas Heart is to break down travel misconceptions or judgments about places and ideas. Perhaps it could be that destination that everyone warns you not to visit because of how dangerous it is, or maybe you yourself had preconceived notions that were proven wrong once you arrived to where you were going.
My aim is to present a variety of different opinions and experiences through the eyes of other travelers. It’s important to hear travel stories from all different perspectives in life, I call it seeing the world through a kaleidoscope lens.

You may have noticed by now on this blog that I have a slight fondness for New Zealand. I’m enamored with the friendly people, the scenery, the Maori culture, and the wildlife, but would you be surprised to hear that I am also partial to the food?

Must see places in New Zealand to blow you away and give you a good overview of just how beautiful and diverse this country can be.
New Zealand is the land of natural beauty. It’s a country that draws people from all over the world who want to experience nature at its finest. Seriously, the amount of outdoor activities and adventures to go on as soon as you step foot in the country will make your head spin, as well as the abundance of New Zealand wonders on both the north and south island.
I was lucky enough to travel around a good portion of New Zealand while living in Wellington for a year, and I came away with some incredible experiences and stories of places I could’ve only ever imagined (or seen in Lord of the Rings).
New Zealand is a special place for me to be sure, so I wanted to share with you guys my favorite must see places in New Zealand that completely blew me away. It’s a another world down under, and I hope you get to experience it for yourself one day, if you haven’t already.

There’s something about a good city view. I love looking at skylines and seeing what the city maze looks like from above. It gives you a whole new perspective on a place and sometimes even makes you stand back in awe at the city planners, architects, and designers that created such an intricate place that is a city.
Since buying my plane ticket last week, Asia has been on my mind nonstop. Regardless of the fact that my trip is still a good 7 months away, I’m constantly daydreaming about dim sum, humidity, exotic wildlife, and life on the road again.
Most people experience the largest city in New Zealand upon entry into the country, but I flew straight from tropical Queensland to Wellington and started working full-time. I didn’t get to experience Auckland for myself until my very last week in New Zealand.
