After testing 45 Quince items over the past three years, I’ve accidentally built my summer wardrobe around this one brand. Not because I set out to, but because the pieces I keep reaching for happen to be from Quince. So this year, I decided to formalize it into a proper Quince summer capsule wardrobe.
This capsule has 9 main clothing pieces, 1 lightweight layer, and a handful of accessories. Every single item is something I own and have personally worn and washed, and the entire capsule (including accessories) costs under $900.
Most of the clothing pieces are under $50, and the whole thing packs down into a carry-on. I also included three pairs of Quince shoes at the end that would go well with the capsule.
If you’ve read my full Quince review, you already know which items I love and which ones I’d skip. This capsule is built from the winners that are good for summer.
4 Summer Tops
#1 100% European Linen Fitted Tank

Best Linen Tank for Summer
I have it in: Floral Waterfall, Small, $42
This linen tank is the top I grab most often in the summer. The fitted silhouette is more polished than a standard tank, and the floral waterfall color pops from a distance and is a fun pattern up close.
At 5’10”, the small fits well through the torso without being too cropped (although it’s cropped enough that you’ll want to wear it with high-waisted bottoms). It pairs well with all three bottoms and layers well under the cashmere crewneck.
#2 100% European Linen Halter Top

Best Summer Statement Top
I have it in: Red Classic Mini Gingham, Small, $42
I love, love, love this linen halter top, which is a dressier piece in the capsule. The halter neckline and red gingham pattern give it personality, so I save it for evenings out or when I’m feeling more of a retro vibe for summer, like for berry picking or going for a picnic.
Pair it with the deep navy linen pants or the crepe skirt and the crescent shoulder bag, and this becomes a full dinner outfit. I went with a small and it’s about the same level of cropped as the linen fitted tank above.
#3 100% European Linen Vest

Best Sleeveless Linen Top
I have it in: Flax, Small (should’ve sized down to an x-small), $42
This vest gives a completely different look than the two tanks above. The structured, sleeveless cut feels more put-together, like something you’d wear to a fancy lunch or sunset dinner, and it fits into any European streets for a summer vacation.
This one works particularly well with the maroon crepe skirt for a warm-toned outfit, and with the navy linen pants for a very European-looking linen outfit.
Sizing note: The vest runs larger than I realized. I got a small, which is my usual top size for Quince, but I should’ve gone with an extra small so it wouldn’t be so loose. This style looks best when it’s more fitted, so definitely size down from your usual size unless you have a larger chest.
#4 100% European Linen Long Sleeve Shirt

Most Versatile Linen Top
I have it in: Blue Pinstripe, Medium, $42
This is a great versatile linen shirt for summer, that works well as a layer, a standalone button-up top, or as a casual vacation coverup over a swimsuit.
The blue pinstripe works well with the French blue linen shorts and anything else in this capsule since the striped pattern is light enough to not clash. Plus, the long sleeves give sun protection without overheating.
The deep navy color would be my backup pick for this capsule wardrobe since that one pops a bit more in photos and it would be a nice co-ord set with the navy linen pants. I just love the blue pinstripe for a more beachy vibe for summer.
3 Summer Bottoms
#5 100% European Linen Shorts

Best Everyday Linen Shorts
I have it in: French Blue, Medium, $32
These are the first pair of shorts I bought postpartum, and they’ve been in heavy rotation ever since. The French blue is a really nice summer color and looks great with all four tops.
The one honest downside is they wrinkle easily, and when they get too wrinkly, they ride up a bit, but a quick steam fixes that.
Alternative: If you want a higher rise, the 100% European Linen High Waisted Shorts in Blue Pinstripe are another great backup option. They have a color that matches the long-sleeve shirt for a co-ord set. And the high waist gives a clean line and a length that’s just right for my 5’10” frame. These ones don’t ride up as much when the linen inevitably gets wrinkled. The main difference is the waist height and the look of a fitted stretchy waistband for these vs the drawstring look for the regular linen shorts. Both are great options; it just depends on your style preference.
#6 100% European Linen Pants

Best Summer Linen Pants
I have it in: Deep Navy, Medium (should’ve sized down to a small), $42
Deep navy looks dressier than the lighter blue shorts, so I reach for these linen pants for dinners and evenings out. They pair well with the halter top, the fitted tank, the long-sleeve shirt, and the cashmere sweater.
Adding a belt (like the Allegra European Leather Belt) pulls the whole look together and gives these a dressier feel for nicer outings, but I like that they’re still versatile and casual enough to pull over your swimsuit bottoms at the beach.
Sizing note: Size down in these. There’s no drawstring and the waistband isn’t particularly tight. I’m usually a medium in Quince bottoms, but I should’ve ordered a small since the medium tends to fall down on me. I also wish Quince offered a longer inseam for tall frames, but these work if you’re okay with the cropped look.
Alternative: I personally like having one pair of lightweight pants for a summer capsule wardrobe, but if you want a dressier alternative bottom, Quince’s silk skirt in navy (which I also own) would be a good swap.
#7 Lightweight Crepe Slip Skirt

Best Flowy Skirt
I have it in: Maroon, Medium, $49.90
This is the one bottom that isn’t linen, and that’s intentional. This skirt’s made from 100% viscose crepe, which has a completely different drape and wrinkles a little less, making it a strong packing piece for summer travel.
The maroon pairs well with all four tops. I especially love it with the halter top for a fun summer date night look. The elastic waistband is comfortable for all-day wear, and the length looks great for tall frames.
2 Summer Dresses
#8 100% Organic Cotton Gauze Tiered Maxi Dress

Best Casual Summer Dress
I have it in: Vintage Cream, Small (should’ve sized down to an x-small), $59.90
This is the dress I throw on when I don’t want to think about an outfit. The cotton gauze is incredibly airy and breathable, and the tiered silhouette is forgiving and flattering. This is my farmers market dress, my beach walk dress, my casual lunch dress for summer. This one also pairs well with the vest over it for a more polished look.
Sizing note: This dress runs large, especially in the armpits. Unless you have a large chest, size down. I should’ve gone for an extra-small in this one, and I’ve never been an extra-small in my life (besides maybe middle school). So this is true sizing down.
If you prefer separates over dresses, the Organic Cotton Gauze Smocked Maxi Skirt in White is a strong swap. Same soft cotton gauze fabric as a skirt, so it pairs with any of the four tops. And the white is lined, so no sheerness issues.
#9 100% European Linen Scoop Neck Midi Dress

Best Dress-Up Summer Dress
I have it in: Taupe Brown Gingham, Small, $84
This dress is the most polished piece in the whole capsule and the priciest clothing item. The scoop neck is flattering, the midi length is versatile (and is a true midi length for tall women), and the taupe brown gingham is subtle enough to read as a neutral.
Layer the cashmere crewneck over it and pair it with white sneakers on cooler evenings for a completely different “girl-next-door” look, or I also like to pair this one with the flax vest. This is my nice dinner, winery visit, sunset-somewhere-scenic dress.
Optional Add-On or Switch Out With the Scoop Neck Midi Dress: 100% Organic Cotton Poplin Tiered Maxi Dress

Best Vacation Dress
I have it in: Azure Stripe (now discontinued but the Hudson Stripe is very similar just not quite as bright blue), Small, $69.90
If you wear a lot of dresses or want a vacation-specific option, the 100% Organic Cotton Poplin Tiered Maxi Dress in Hudson Stripe is a great add-on or swap for the linen scoop neck dress.
It’s not quite as breathable as the other two, so I wouldn’t take it to scorching hot destinations, but it wrinkles less than linen, and the bold stripe pattern is fun for travel and photos.
1 Lightweight Layer
#10 Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck Sweater

I have it in: Ivory, Medium, $50
The Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck Sweater is a great layer for summer if you only want one. It covers flights, air conditioning, cool evenings, and that moment at dinner when the sun goes down. At $50 for Mongolian cashmere, the value is hard to beat.
Ivory goes with every piece in the capsule. You can wear it draped over your shoulders with dresses, pulled on with linen pants for evening, or tied around your waist during the day.
If you want a more casual and heavier layering option, the 100% Organic Cotton Denim Jacket in Indigo Blue (~$50) is a strong alternative and one that I wear a lot as well.
It’s midweight with some heft to it, the arm length fits well at 5’10”, and it goes great over the cotton gauze maxi dress or thrown over a swimsuit and shorts for a beach-to-lunch transition.
Summer Accessories (Add-Ons)

- Italian Plunge One-Piece Swimsuit (Electric Blue, Small, $49.90): The boldest color in the capsule. Works as a bodysuit with bottoms, on its own as a swimsuit, and pairs nicely with the long-sleeve linen shirt for a beach day. This is such a flattering swimsuit and one of my favorite one-pieces right now. I also really love the color.
- Bali Polarized Acetate Sunglasses (Black, Narrow, $50): I’ve finally succumbed to the oval sunglasses trend and these are very cute and stylish for summer. $50 means I’m not stressed if they get scratched or lost on a trip.
- Allegra European Leather Belt (Espresso Brown, Medium-could’ve gone down to a small, $49.90): Looks especially good with the linen pants to pull an outfit together for dinner, but also works great worn over a dress to add some shape.
- Hand Crochet Hobo Shoulder Bag (Natural, $52): Big enough for beach essentials, and the natural color goes with every outfit. I just took this one to Hawaii with me as my beach bag.
- Leather Mini Crescent Shoulder Bag (Black, $89.90): The summer evening bag. Small enough not to weigh you down, big enough for a phone and wallet. Black goes with everything. If you’d rather have a crossbody, I’d recommend the Italian Leather Quilted Crossbody Bag or the Italian Leather Mini Bow Bag.
- Neoprene Backpack (Mocha, $99.90): Water-repellent and lightweight. It’s a better summer pick than leather. My go-to for sightseeing or around town. I’ve taken this on many summer trips.
3 Pairs of Shoes (Add-Ons)
I haven’t tested Quince shoes yet, but these three would round out the capsule nicely and cover every scenario from beach to dinner.
- 100% Leather Everyday Sneaker (White, Size 10, $84): The pair you’d wear for sightseeing, travel days, errands, and any outfit that calls for a casual shoe. White sneakers go with every piece in this capsule.
- Italian Leather Platform Sandal (Cashew, Size 10, $72): A warm neutral sandal for beach days, farmers markets, and anything where you want to look put together without trying too hard. The slight platform adds a little height without sacrificing comfort.
- Italian Leather Mary-Jane Ballet Flat (Merlot, Size 10, $72): A dressier shoe for the capsule. Merlot ties in nicely with the maroon crepe skirt and the red gingham halter top. This is the pair I’d reach for at dinner or a winery visit. If you prefer something simpler, the Italian Leather Glove Ballet Flat in Black or Coffee Bean ($68) is a solid alternative.
20 Outfit Combinations With 11 Pieces Of Clothing
The real test of a capsule wardrobe is how many outfits you can build from it. Here are 20 of my favorites, with 11 pieces (including the extra dress) + accessories.

Sizing Notes

I’m 5’10 and weigh around 150 pounds. These are my sizing notes.
- Tops: Small in the linen tanks and medium in the long-sleeve shirt. I ordered a small in the vest, though I wish I had ordered an extra small. I’d recommend going down a size unless you have a large chest, since the vest runs large.
- Bottoms: Medium in the shorts and skirt. I ordered a medium in the linen pants, but a small would’ve been a better fit. I recommend sizing down in the linen pants since there’s no drawstring and the elastic isn’t particularly tight.
- Dresses: Small in both, though the cotton gauze maxi runs very large, especially in the armpits. Size down unless you have a larger chest. I should’ve gone extra small for that one.
General tip: Quince linen relaxes a bit after a few wears, so if something feels slightly snug when you first try it on, give it a day.
What I’d Add Next
If I were expanding this capsule, I’d add the 100% European Linen Midi Slip Skirt in French Blue ($50) for another skirt option in the blue palette, the 100% European Linen Tank in Vintage Pink Chambray ($32) for another top with a softer tone, and a Linen Blazer ($90) for a more structured layering option. But 10-11 pieces are plenty for a full summer!
FAQs About Creating a Quince Summer Capsule Wardrobe

How many pieces do you need for a summer capsule wardrobe?
I like having around 10-11 (maybe 12 at most) clothing pieces plus accessories. And around 14-15 if I’m including shoes in the capsule wardrobe.
Is Quince good quality for a capsule wardrobe?
Based on three years of testing, yes. Their natural materials (linen, cashmere, cotton) tend to be consistently good. Synthetic blends have been more hit or miss. For a summer capsule that’s mostly linen and cotton, Quince is a strong choice.
Does Quince linen wrinkle?
It does. All real linen wrinkles. I steam my pieces every few wears. If wrinkling is a dealbreaker, the poplin dress, cotton gauze dress, and crepe skirt in this capsule hold their shape better and don’t get as wrinkly.
How much does a Quince summer capsule wardrobe cost?
This capsule comes to $877 total with accessories, and around $1,105 if you include three pairs of shoes.
Can you travel with a Quince capsule wardrobe?
This entire capsule fits in a carry-on. The linen and cotton pieces are lightweight and pack down small, and the cashmere crewneck folds flat without taking up too much space.
The only downside is that the linen wrinkles easily, so I suggest bringing a travel steamer or a wrinkle-release spray if you’re taking these pieces on a trip.
